Discover Venice!
Venice is a unique, hard to describe, amazing city. Actually it’s impossible to find out a reason to confirm my thesis, but it’s this way, Venice has been, depsite its difects, and will be forever the most beautiful city in the world.
Historically speaking, Venice is divided in six quarters, called “Sestrieri” plus the Giudecca Island, which was once a sort of holidays island for rich people; among these, tourists know more than others San Marco, an incredible area where you can find S.Mark’s Square, with its Basilica (the Duke Church), the Ducal Palace, i “piombi” (prisons), the bridge of sighs, Procuratie and Campanile (the tower).
And then Rialto bridge, the “Scala Contarini del Bovolo“, just to quote some of them. But one tip to discover Venice at most is to remember Venice is not only San Mark’s Square and its surrounding: after the square indeed, you are in Castello, which goes over Arsenale and Biennale, up to Penzo Stadium.
If you go back in the opposite direction, after S.Stefano cross the bridge and you are in the belly of the fish, thinking at Venice shape: Dorsoduro, a sestriere full of cultural features, from Guggenheim collection to Punta della Dogana (Pinault foundation), from Ca’ Foscari university, to Ca’ Rezzonico, and above all the Accademy Gallery. S.Croce and S.Polo are close to each other, they seem to be the same quarter, as they are both linked by a dedalus of small streets (calli and callette): interesting areas are S.Polo’s field, Frari Church, Erbaria, S.Giovanni Evangelista, Ca’ Pesaro, Querini Dubois Palace, il Fontego dei Turchi (natural hisrtory museum) and many more.
Finally, last but not least, Cannaregio, beating heart of Venice, is an important meeting point both for venecians and tourists, who all love so much its streets and it marvellous corners, from Miracoli church to the Ghetto of Venice, from S.Geremia’s field to Ca d’Oro, ending up with the eternal Casino of Venice.
